Pigs in a Blanket

Pigs in a Blanket

Served in almost every doughnut place and enjoyed for breakfast by millions all over the country, the pig in a blanket is a perfect easy treat you can impress all your friends with. Also known as wiener winks, this meal has its own national holiday! The American Farm Bureau Foundation’s ‘National Pigs-in-a-Blanket Day” comes around every April 24th. And in the UK, Pigs in a Blanket is part of their Christmas lunch.

Here in the USA we have them for breakfast or when tailgating. In my opinion any time is perfect for these easy to make yummy goodies.

Ingredients
- Crescent roll dough (when I am lazy I use the butter crescent rolls from a can, but it isn’t as good)
- beef lil smokies
- pepperjack cheese

Preparation

Preheat the oven to 350.

First we take our dough and lay it out to be cut. We want to cut triangles just like you would if you were making crescent rolls, but we want the fat end of of our triangle to be the same width as our little smokies. Cut all our dough and then grab the cheese. We want to cut small little squares that we can wrap up with our sausages in the dough.

Once we have all our ingredients prepared we are ready to start putting our pigs together. I usually start with the fat end of my dough triangle, stack a piece of cheese with a lil smokie, and start to roll. After I have a half roll done I stick another piece of cheese in to ice the cake. Of course, I like a lot of cheese, so cheese to taste. Finish up the roll and place on a un-greased cookie sheet.

With our pigs in a blanket together we can move over to our oven. Stick em in and set the timer for 8 minutes. Find something to do so you don’t get all worked up, and don’t mess with them until the timer goes off.

A beep means it is time to enjoy. Once you can comfortably touch them dig in. A word of caution though, you can eat too many, so be careful and limit yourself to a reasonable number.
